Going out alone in Budapest: a solo traveller's night, hour by hour
Start at 18:30 with a hostel-run quiz, karaoke or bingo, move to a ruin bar by 22:00, decide at midnight whether to join a group, and plan the way home before 04:00. Which night you go matters more than which bar: Thursday to Saturday held three quarters of our guests from June to October 2026.

The last column is our own: guests per night across 121 bookings for tour dates June to October 2026. Friday alone is about 35% of guests, and Thursday to Saturday together about 76%. Tuesday and Wednesday are the quiet nights, around four to five guests against about fourteen on a Friday.
18:30: pick a social anchor, not a bar
Start at an event that exists to mix strangers, and the hard part of a solo night, the first conversation, is done for you. The Maverick hostels publish a weekly calendar of exactly that, with set departures from the hostels on Kazinczy utca and Rákóczi út. Wombat's City Hostel on Király utca has its own bar, where it says guests "meet and mingle", and runs free in-house events, though it publishes no Budapest times.
One thing these pages do not say is whether non-guests are welcome. The karaoke listing reads "FREE event for all Maverick guests"; the quiz and bingo pages are silent on it. Ask the reception before you count on a seat.
20:00: quiz, karaoke or bingo
Which one depends on the night. Sunday is the quiz at The Pulse Bar, 20:00 to 22:00. Wednesday is karaoke at Playa Dance Club, listed from 20:00 until midnight. Friday is bingo at Hoff House from 19:00, €5 at the door, and the listing promises: "Bring your friends or come solo – you won't stay a stranger for long!"
Two Meetup groups, Budapest Language Exchange & Friends and International Meeting Point Budapest, have run social evenings for thousands of members over the years. Neither listed an upcoming event on 25 October 2026, so treat them as a maybe, not a plan.
22:00: a room where being alone is normal
By ten the event has done its job, and the question is where to take it. Füge Udvar on Klauzál utca is open daily 16:00 to 05:00 with free entry, four dance rooms and a games room. Szimpla Kert on Kazinczy utca runs to 04:00 every night. Hoff House stays open to 04:00 on Friday and Saturday if the bingo crowd is staying put.

00:00: join a group, or call it a night
Midnight is the decision point. If the evening has found you company, stay with it. If it has not, joining a group that already exists is the simplest fix.
Our own booking data says how normal that is. Of the 2,794 bookings made on our website between July 2023 and June 2026, 42.4% were for one person and 73.5% for one or two. Most people also decide late: from January 2024 to June 2026, 60% of bookings were made on the day of the tour, rising to 67% for parties of one or two. And 98.8% of our direct customers came from outside Hungary, led by the UK, the US, Germany, France and Australia, so the people you meet are other visitors.

02:00: the club, if you want one
The club complexes are a different animal from the courtyard bars: later, louder and with a door. Instant-Fogas on Akácfa utca opens 18:00 to 06:00 every night, and which other clubs suit which crowd is covered in nightlife and clubbing in Budapest.
04:00: the way back
Plan this part before you go out, not at the bar. The metro stops around midnight on weeknights and 01:00 at weekends (M1 a little earlier), and the first trains run again from about 04:40, so the hours in between belong to night buses, the 4/6 tram line (a replacement bus on Sunday to Thursday nights until 20 November 2026) and licensed taxis. Every route from the district, with times, is on the night routes home.
