Hungarian forint
The Hungarian forint (ISO code: HUF, symbol: Ft) is the official currency of Hungary, introduced in 1946. It is used for all everyday transactions in Budapest, including bar tabs, restaurant bills, and transport.
Using forints in Budapest
Hungary is an EU member but has not adopted the euro. Visitors should exchange currency on arrival or withdraw forints from ATMs, as many smaller bars and ruin pubs accept cash only. Prices for a beer typically range from around 700 to 1,500 HUF depending on the venue.
