Beer
Beer is an alcoholic beverage produced by fermenting a starch-based liquid — typically malted barley — with hops for bitterness and flavour, and yeast to drive fermentation. It is one of the oldest and most widely drunk beverages in the world.
Beer styles and Budapest
Beer divides broadly into lagers (bottom-fermented, served cold) and ales (top-fermented, broader flavour range). Hungarian bars stock international lagers alongside domestic brands such as Dreher and Soproni, while Budapest's craft-beer scene has grown considerably, offering pale ales, stouts, and sours alongside the mainstream options.
