Hangover
A hangover is the set of physiological and psychological symptoms — headache, nausea, fatigue, dehydration, and sensitivity to light and sound — that appear after drinking more alcohol than the body can process comfortably. Symptoms typically peak when blood alcohol concentration returns to zero.
Causes and common remedies
Alcohol is a diuretic, leading to dehydration which drives the classic headache and dry mouth. It also disrupts sleep architecture and causes mild inflammation, contributing to fatigue and general malaise. Common remedies include water, electrolytes, sleep, and food. There is no scientifically proven cure, though pacing oneself and drinking water between alcoholic drinks significantly reduces severity.
