Microbrewery
A microbrewery is a small-scale brewery that produces beer in limited quantities, typically focussing on flavour variety and local ingredients. Most microbreweries sell their beer directly at an on-site taproom or through local pubs.
Craft brewing and microbreweries
The term 'microbrewery' emerged in the UK and US in the 1970s–80s as a counterpoint to large industrial breweries. Annual output thresholds vary by country, but the defining traits are independence, small batch sizes, and an emphasis on distinctive flavour profiles. Hungary's craft-beer scene has grown steadily, with several Budapest venues pouring locally brewed ales, IPAs, and lagers alongside international craft labels.
